Costa Arènte Controlled humidification Nebbiasecca AKIMist for top quality wines

To mature a great wine, you also need the right environment, capable of protecting and enhancing every nuance of the long refinement process.

THE CONTEXT

Costa Arènte is a prestigious winery located on the hills of Grezzana (VR), in the heart of Valpantena, an area dedicated to the production of great Veronese reds. Part of the Tenute del Leone Alato group, the winery specializes in Amarone, Valpolicella and Ripasso, with a philosophy aimed at enhancing the territory and respecting the raw material.

From harvest to bottling, in Costa Arènte every phase takes place within the confines of the estate. A model that distinguishes it in Valpolicella and Valpantena, and which best interprets the idea of wine production: artisanal attention to quality and selection to enhance what the land offers us, in full harmony with its times.

The grape harvest and selection are strictly done by hand. Small plots are cultivated from which limited production is born, also the result of extreme care of the territory. Added to this is a strong focus on innovation in the winery, as an essential aspect to improve ourselves and collect the most from our own work.

“Innovation, care for the territory, attention to the winemaking processes: we perfect every detail to improve the quality of our wines.”

THE CHALLENGE

Over the years, Costa Arente has encountered problems related to low humidity in the refinement rooms, especially in the winter periods and during seasonal changes. The main consequences were:

• Excessive loss of volume during maturation in the barrel (the so-called “angels’ share”),

• Frequent topping up with consequent risk of oxidation,

• Suboptimal microclimatic conditions for the conservation of the barrels and the evolution of the wines.

THE SOLUTION

To meet these needs, a water and compressed air humidification system “Nebbiasecca AKIMist” was designed and installed, tailor-made for the cellar’s refinement rooms, to perfectly complement the other systems and not to alter the visual impact of the environment. The system was chosen for its:

• Efficiency in maintaining constant humidity, without creating condensation or wetting surfaces,

• Modularity and precision, thanks to the use of fine nebulization nozzles and automatic adjustment via sensors,

• Reliability and ease of management, with low consumption and minimal maintenance.

THE RESULTS

The installation brought immediate and measurable benefits:

• Stabilized environmental humidity between 75% and 80%, ideal for barrel aging;

• Significant reduction in wine loss due to evaporation (up to 35% less than in previous years);

• Better conservation of the barrels, with less deformation and better wood retention;

• Healthier and more stable environmental conditions for the cellar staff.
