THE CONTEXT

SASIL S.p.A.
SASIL produces feldspathic sands, silica sands, washed glass sands and feldspars for the glass, ceramic and sanitary ware industries.
SASIL manages a complete mineral treatment cycle: washing, attrition, grinding, classification, flotation, drying, magnetic separation, leaching, recovery and filtration of the finest fractions. In recent years it has specialized in the recovery of industrial waste of various origins but on a glass basis, developing innovative treatment processes.
Collaterally, it has developed some projects of environmental and energy value that have already allowed a significant reduction in CO2 emissions as a result of reductions in energy consumption. Furthermore, it has recently developed a quartz treatment system to obtain a very pure silica used in the glass of the latest generation photovoltaic panels with an energy gain of 20% compared to traditional ones.
The exhausted mines are recovered in an equipped park to be used free of charge.
SASIL also collaborates systematically with university institutes to research and development projects.
Sasil received the certificate of excellence from Confindustria in 2010.

THE CHALLENGE

In the production plant, SASIL had to manage a major criticality:
• High concentrations of fine and coarse dust in the air, generated during:
o the handling of dry materials (silos, conveyor belts, unloading)
o screening and treatment operations
• Related risks:
o Unhealthy environmental conditions for operators
o Cleaning problems and accumulation of dust on machinery and sensors
o Safety risks (e.g. explosiveness in suspension)
o Potential impact on environmental certifications

THE SOLUTION

After a preliminary environmental analysis, an anti-dust industrial humidification system was installed, specifically designed for environments with high particulate emissions.

Technical features:

• High-pressure BOOSTER systems with nebulizer nozzles at critical points (loading/unloading, belts, screens)

• Modular installation and integrated with the existing layout

• Low water and energy consumption technology

THE RESULTS

Following the installation, SASIL recorded:

• Visible reduction of suspended dust in the operating areas (>70% less)

• Greater comfort and safety for operators

• Less wear and maintenance of machinery (less deposited dust)
